The Digital Art and Design program develops in the student and future artist and designer, the knowledge and skills akin to new media and Graphic Design. It prepares artists and competent and creative professional designers, endowed with a broad general culture and a broad knowledge of communications technology. It offers students the critical, technical, esthetical and conceptual tools, essential for the development of his/her visual individuality as artist and designer. It stimulates students to create projects whose technical quality and conceptual depth, contribute to visual culture and to the enrichment of Puerto Rican tradition of art and design.

Graphic Design

  • Solve visual communication problems through the design process, including research and analysis, search for alternatives, making of prototypes and results evaluation.
  • Be able to identify the cultural, social and economic contexts, which affect design decisions.
  • Understand the form in which elements and principles, as well as typography are combined in the solution of visual communication problems.
  • Design and produce printed works, either digital or mixed media, as well as create digital images and illustrations.
  • Use digital design, image manipulation and multimedia software.
  • Understand the history and theory of graphic design from different perspectives, including the history of art, criticism, the theory of communication, as well as the use of social and cultural objects of design.
  • Understand the practice of design and the execution of teamwork projects.
  • Integrate research, analysis and experimentation in the production of design Works.
  • Pursue graduate studies in this area.

Image and Movement

  • Design and produce interactive works in digital media.
  • Use digital photographic and video cameras.
  • Develop advanced skills in sound, video, and animation.
  • Know the theory of new media and new technologies within the art context.
  • Integrate research, analysis, and experimentation in the production of his/her work.
  • Pursue graduate studies in this area.
