Academic offerings

The Escuela de Artes Plásticas offers a bachelor's degree in five majors: Graphic Arts, Art Education, Sculpture, Image and Design, and Painting. The bachelor's degree consists of 132 academic credits, and is structured in four components:

Basic Studio Courses - 30 credits
General Studies - 57 credits
Concentration Courses - 36 credits
Electives - 9 credits*

Basic studio courses provide all students at the Escuela de Artes Plásticas with basic skills in the arts. This curricular component is structured to develop essential knowledge of drawing, design, graphic arts, digital practice, painting, and sculpture. General Studies courses provide students with a comprehensive perspective of the fields of knowledge and analytical tools. Concentration courses comprise the requirements and electives established for each bachelor's degree and develop skills in the field of specialization The purpose of free electives is to broaden the comprehensive education of our students, and they may also be used to complete the requirements for a minor concentration.

Course Order

Courses shall be taken in the order established in each concentration program. The sequence ensures that basic or intermediate courses that are Prerequisites for more advanced courses are taken. If a student should need to change the course order, he or she should request authorization (consult his or her academic counselor) from the department head.

* An exception is the Industrial Design concentration with a specialty in Furniture Design, which has 6 free elective credits and 39 concentration credits.
