The Escuela de Artes Plásticas receives
applications from talented and highly-motivated students who are committed
to receiving a professional education in the arts. The Admissions Committee
uses several criteria to admit candidates, emphasizing three principal
indicators: grade point average, portfolio/seminar, and the interview/essay.
The Admissions Office processes applications from
high school students and accredited university level institutions. The
Office receives and evaluates the official documentation of the candidates
for admission, and provides information to students regarding admission
requirements, application procedures, and courses of study offered by
the Escuela.
Special Requirements for Admission
All candidates for the regular bachelor's degree
program must present a Portfolio of their work or take the Admissions
Seminar.
Portfolio
Recommended for students with experience in the arts. To be admitted, students shall submit a minimum of 10 creative works. The portfolio reflects interests, concepts, creativity, energy and motivation, as well as his or her previous experience in visual arts. The portfolios are evaluated at different times of the year.
Admissions Seminar
Recommended for students who have less experience in the arts and need to acquire essential skills in order to pursue studies at the Escuela de Artes Plásticas. Students will develop a portfolio during the Seminar, which is offered twice a year on the dates in the Academic Calendar.
Interview and Essay
The Escuela interviews all applicants for admission. In addition, applicants are asked to write a short essay which is evaluated by the Admissions Committee.
Procedures to Apply for Admission for New Students:

• Official high school transcript or equivalent.
• Results of the College Entrance Examination Board or SAT
• Vaccination Certificate, if the student is under the age of 21
• Postal money order or certified check made out to the Secretario de Hacienda (Secretary of the Treasury Department) in the amount of $20.00.
Home Schoolers:
Apply before the Admissions Seminar or before submitting a portfolio. The application for Admission should be submitted with the following documents:
• A notarized document certifying the student was home schooled.
• Results of the College Entrance Examination Board or SAT
• Vaccination Certificate, if the student is under the age of 21
• Postal money order or certified check made out to the Secretario de Hacienda (Secretary of the Treasury Department) in the amount of $20.00.
Transfer Students
Transfer students from other institutions of higher learning must have passed 24 college-level credits with a minimum GPA of 2.00 and shall submit a portfolio of their work or take the Admissions Seminar to prepare a portfolio. (A maximum of 60 credits will be validated.) Transfer students shall also submit the following documentation:
• Copy of the catalogue form the institution of origin..
• Letter of recommendation from the Dean of Students of the institution
of origin.
• A letter of recommendation from the Dean of Students of the institution of origin.
• Official grade transcript
Applications for admission by transfer shall be filed by the deadlines set in the academic calendar for the year.
Foreign Students, whether new or transfers, shall also:
• Send a copy of their high school or college academic records, in the original language with an English or Spanish translation, if the original is in another language, duly certified as an official copy by the institution of origin and validated by the Department of Education of the country of origin and the United States Consulate.
• Submit a copy of the catalogue of the institution of origin.
• Submit evidence of titles or diplomas received.
• Show evidence of financial resources for studying in Puerto Rico.
• If the institution of origin is a private institution, submit an official certification that the institution is a recognized institution in the country of origin.
• Obtain approval of form I-20 from the United States immigration authorities through SEVIS (Student & Exchange Visitor Information System).
• Provide homologation of courses from a duly certified body, if the institution of origin does not use the United States system.
All documents that are submitted become the property of the Escuela de Artes Plásticas. No student who applies after the deadline or fails to fulfill any other admissions standard or requirement will be admitted to the bachelor's degree program.
New students will begin classes only during the first semester of the year academic. Transfer or readmitted students may begin classes during the first or second semester.
Admitted students may not enroll until the Escuela has received all of the documents required by the Office de Admissions. Beginning August de 2001, before beginning classes, all new students are required to take the Student Immersion Seminar, which includes EG 001 Introduction to College Life. The Student Immersion Seminar does not accrue academic credit.
Open Studies
The Escuela offers another enrollment option for the community at large and students who were not accepted to the bachelor's degree program. The Open Study Program allows them to take regular courses at the Escuela to become better prepared and apply for admission or for personal and professional improvement. Applicants shall submit an Application for Admission and pay the fee of $20.00. Admission to this program does not guarantee admission to the bachelor's degree program.
